The Phenom Cup is an exclusive invitational youth football tournament designed to showcase the most promising young talent in Ghana. This prestigious event brings together teams that have been strategically selected based on their outstanding performance and are registered under the Ghana Football Association (GFA). With a strong commitment to promoting youth football, the Phenom Cup serves as a platform where emerging players can display their skills and gain valuable exposure.
Participation in the Phenom Cup is by invitation only, ensuring a high level of competition. Teams are chosen based on their performance metrics, track record, and development within the GFA framework. This approach guarantees that the tournament features top youth teams, fostering an environment that encourages growth, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit.
To maintain fairness and integrity, the Phenom Cup enforces strict age control measures. All participating players must present a valid Ghana Card or national passport for age verification. This requirement ensures that teams adhere to age eligibility rules, preventing age fraud and promoting an honest competitive atmosphere.
The Phenom Cup adheres strictly to FIFA and Ghana Football Association (GFA) rules, ensuring a standardized and professional experience. Key regulations include:
- Player Eligibility: All players must meet the age requirement verified through the Ghana Card or national passport.
- Match Duration: Matches will be played in accordance with FIFA standards for youth football, typically comprising two halves of 35-45 minutes each, depending on the age category.
- Substitution Policy: Teams are allowed a set number of substitutions per match, aligning with GFA guidelines. Players substituted out cannot re-enter the match.
- Code of Conduct: All players, coaches, and team staff are expected to adhere to a strict code of conduct. Unsporting behavior, violent conduct, or abusive language will result in penalties, including warnings, yellow or red cards, and potential suspension.
- Dispute Resolution: Any disputes or protests must be submitted in writing to the tournament committee within a specified period after the match. The committee’s decision will be final and binding.
- Officiating: Matches will be officiated by experienced referees approved by the GFA to ensure impartiality and fair play. The use of assistant referees and fourth officials will be standard for matches in later stages.
- Equipment: Teams must wear uniforms that comply with tournament specifications, including numbered jerseys. Proper footwear and safety gear, such as shin guards, are mandatory.
- Match Rules: The tournament follows FIFA rules on handball, offsides, fouls, and penalties. Extra time and penalty shootouts will be used to resolve ties in knockout rounds.
- Matches: Each match follows the standard rules laid out by FIFA and the GFA.
- Structure: Teams will participate in a group-stage format followed by knockout rounds, leading to the finals.
- Overtime: In the event of a tie in the knockout stages, matches will proceed to extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shootout.
The tournament will be held at premier football venues in Accra, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to provide the best possible experience for players, coaches, and spectators alike.
